The North American Travel Guide, Lonely Planet, defines ‘Going for pintxos in San Sebastian’ as the best foodie experience in the world, in its latest publication, ‘The Ultimate Eatlist.’ The guide includes a ranked list of the 500 top foodie experiences from all over the world, proposed and compiled by the best chefs, editors and food critics. .

The publication underlines that the custom of bar-hopping along its narrow alleyways while tasting delicious snacks makes San Sebastian the best foodie experience in the world, because Donostia is much more than gastronomy. For the First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Tourism, Ernesto Gasco, ‘it is an enormous pride for a tradition as dear to us as going for pintxos to receive global recognition. It is a great way for those who visit us to learn the local customs and traditions. When we travel, food tells us a story, and the pintxos in Donostia tell ours.’

The guide recommends spending at least one day in the town to live the experience to the full, take a nap and go out again at around 9pm. According to the experts, it’s hard to list favourites, but the simple examples are often the ones that blow your mind: battered white asparagus, tuna and anchovy tart or maybe mushrooms braised with garlic.

To present the guide, the leading North American publication, a benchmark in the travel world, has made a video with the 10 best suggestions and the reasons for their choice. The list headed by San Sebastian and its pintxos has, in second place, Kuala Lumpur with Curry laksa, followed by Tokyo and Sushi, Texas with Beef Brisket, Bangkok and Som Tum, Smørrebrød in Copenhagen, Kaikoura in New Zealand, with Crayfish, South Korea and its Bibimbap, Margarita pizza in Naples and Dim sum from Hong Kong in tenth place.
