San Sebastián Tourism & Convention Bureau will participate in London’s upcoming World Travel Market (WTM) in November. San Sebastián’s tourism agency will be featured in Turespaña’s Basque Country stand along with Basquetour, where it will showcase the range of urban tourism and city break opportunities that Donostia/San Sebastián has to offer, with special focus on cultural, culinary, sports and festival tourism.

San Sebastián Tourism & Convention Bureau and its new 2017-2021 VISITBIZI Tourism Master Plan are committed to a sustainable and balanced tourism that prioritizes quality of life and the city’s authenticity. The focus on mass and widespread promotion shifts to strategic sectors and markets –including the United Kingdom– within this new context.

The United Kingdom ranks as the third leading source market of tourism in Donostia/San Sebastián, with British tourists making 66,872 overnight stays in 2016 (EUSTAT). According to data from the Basque Tourism Observatory, the main reason these tourists visit the region is for city breaks (getaways or short stays) and touring.

Statistics show that 77% of tourists booked a service before their visit to the Basque Country, mainly online (80%), and that UK tourists spend an average of €394 per person per trip to the Basque Country. Finally, 90% rate their visit to the region as extremely positive and say that they would recommend it as a tourist destination. The Basque Country is an increasingly attractive destination for British tourists and visits have increased by 45% and overnight stays by 60% over the past five years.
